Central Europe is cross-cut by dense network of ancient trading routes, many of which started to be used also for recreational purposes. Increasing popularity of walking and hiking for fun lead to establishment of various tourist clubs, which began to map, sign, develop and maintain large number of hiking trails. For example in the Czech Republic the length of trails equals the length of equatorial.

However, the best thing is not the existence of the trails itself, but the places they take you to. Let yourself get carried away by magnificent chateaux with parks and gardens as well as castles perched on cliffs overlooking river valleys. Besides all this you can see rows of wine cellars near the vineyards, bucolic villages or Renaissance towns and experience a touch of history by catching a sight of remnants of the Iron Curtain.

Take a map, detailed route description, use our GPS or a local guide to show you around. Your fantastic walking trip in Europe can begin!

Routes you will encounter

Our trails neither challenge your climbing skills nor test your limits; rather than competition we encourage enjoyment. You will take both narrow footpaths and wider compacted dirt or gravel field and forest trails. Some sections shared with cycling trails are also paved. Apart from nice hiking, you can look forward to great views, charming sights, stops in family inns and cafés and many other things that will make your holiday in Europe memorable experience. Anyway, make sure to bring a pair of comfortable waterproof boots.

Daily sections

Our walking tours are suited for anyone who likes to spend time outdoors, and who can walk 6-12 miles a day. Rated moderate, they give enough place to enjoy the hike itself as well as sightseeing, taking photos, enjoying the views or stopping for a cone of ice-cream and coffee. Some days will take you to the mountain tops, some days are equally scenic, yet relaxed riverside or forest countryside walks. Most days you will get a transfer to the trailhead, leaving the towns behind and walking only the most appealing trail sections.

Why are walking tours in Central Europe a good choice?

  1. The heart of Europe is rich in history, yet it offers modern facilities and sophisticated services for great price/value ratio.
  2. Its compact dimensions are well suited for walking tours: The variety of landscapes is really refreshing, so you can go past vineyards, forests, meadows, rocks and fishponds in one tour, sometimes even in one day.
  3. It offers a well-balanced mix of both cultural and natural features for every traveler: With the largest density of castles and chateaux per square kilometer and incredible, unspoilt mountain, forest, river and wetland landscapes, there is so much to see.
  4. On the Czech and Slovak walking tours you can benefit from precise topographic maps in 1:50 000 scale based on military maps kept top secret until 1989, yet updated frequently these days.
  5. The trail marking system is very easy to follow and you will see painted signs on posts, rocks and trees along the way. Sign posts at main hiking route junctions detail kilometers to the nearest destinations.
