Our most popular walking tour will take you through the varied countryside hiding a host of architectural gems, fairy-tale castles and the bygone Iron Curtain. Since the entire length of the Czech Greenways corridor is over 350 miles (500 km), this trip covers a selection of the best foot trails with the density of tourist destinations including many UNESCO World Heritage sites. Going from wine-making South Moravia to beer-making South Bohemia, each day you will a get a transfer to cover the extra distances between the charming Renaissance towns you will stay in. Add the best beer in the world, safe paths and well-marked trails, and you have all the ingredients for our most popular tour.

Day 1
Vienna (Prague) - ValticeArrive by train from Vienna or Prague to Breclav. On the platform meet our representative/guide who will drive you to Valtice where you get the tour briefing, information materials and navigation tools.
From Valtice you can take a short walking loop (4 km) towards the Czech-Austrian border to see the former “no man’s land“ of the Iron Curtain.Overnight in Valtice.

Day 2
Valtice - Lednice - Mikulov (11 km / 7 miles, elevation gain 50 m)Start your trip at Valtice Chateau, the former Liechtenstein family seat. Take an easy level walk through the designed landscape graced with numerous romantic ‘follies’ set in a harmonious way into the surrounding countryside enlisted as UNESCO World Heritage. Wrap up your day in Neo-Gothic Lednice Chateau, one of the most ornate examples of this historical architectural style. Short car transfer from Lednice will take you to Mikulov with its imposing castle and the Jewish cemetery where the oldest tombstones date back to 1605.

Day 3
Mikulov - Pavlov - Mikulov (13 km / 8 miles, elevation gain 520 m)Get a short transfer to Pavlov Archeopark, the archaeological site of Stone Age mammoth hunters. Today’s hike takes you up and down the Palava Hills past the ruins of two medieval castles. The top of Stolova Hill plateau will reward you with a fine round view of the region including Austria. Descending past the Turold Hill, a former quarry with limestone caves, get back to Mikulov. This lively ancient town might lure you to taste great Moravian wines or take a pilgrimage path up the Holy Hill.

Day 4
Mikulov - Cizov - Vranov - Telc (16 km / 10 miles, elevation gain 380 m)Morning car transfer takes you to Cizov, the site of the last Iron Curtain remnant. Passing the barbed wire take in the unspoiled beauty of Podyji National Park going down and up across the border to the smallest Austrian town of Hardegg with its ancient castle and a sweeping view of the Dyje River valley. Hike back over the hills to Vranov nad Dyji descending to the steep-sided river canyon once again. You can wrap up your day with the tour of the magnificent Baroque chateau, perched atop a cliff over the Dyje River.
Then you will get transferred to Telc listed as a UNESCO World Heritage Site for its perfectly preserved Renaissance and Baroque town center.Overnight in Telc.

Day 5
Telc - Slavonice - Landstejn - Jindrichuv Hradec (12 km / 7.5 miles, elevation gain 240 m)Beginning with a car transfer to Slavonice, a forgotten Renaissance jewel with sgraffito houses, this day promises an easy walk past an interesting outdoor museum of the 1930s bunkers built against the Third Reich invasion. Then make your way to majestic Landstejn Castle, a 13th century fortress amidst the woods. From there you will get a transfer to Jindrichuv Hradec through the sparsely inhabited region nicknamed “Czech Canada“ for its cool climate and mosaic of forests, meadows and ponds. Finish the day in Jindrichuv Hradec, where you can see the world’s largest mechanical nativity scene.

Day 6
Jindrichuv Hradec - Trebon - Kojakovice - Cesky Krumlov (12 km / 7.5 miles, elevation gain 50 m)First, take in the historic town and castle of Jindrichuv Hradec, then get a car transfer to the heart of Bohemia Lake District, the town of Trebon, where you can taste beer in Regent brewery founded in 1379. Walking past a unique water regulation system interconnecting fishponds full of carps – the traditional Czech fish, come to a Neo-Gothic family tomb of once mighty Schwarzenberg noble family. The easy walk through the RAMSAR protected wetland ends at an interesting village museum in Kojakovice, from where you will be transferred to Cesky Krumlov.

Day 7
Cesky Krumlov - Zlata Koruna - Klet - Cesky Krumlov (16 km / 10 miles, elevation gain 630 m)Morning transfer by car takes you to Zlata Koruna famous for its 13th century monastery at the Vltava River bank. From there hike up to the Klet Mountain (1,084 m / 3,556 ft) rewarding you with a restaurant, lookout tower and astronomical observatory on its top. Then go through the Blansky Forest descending back to Cesky Krumlov, a UNESCO World Heritage Site recognized not only for its majestic castle compound, the second largest in the country.

Day 8
Cesky Krumlov - PragueEnjoy the magic of Cesky Krumlov, the gem of South Bohemia with virtually intact ensemble of Gothic, Renaissance and Baroque structures including the oldest working Baroque theatre in Europe.
Get a car transfer from your hotel to the bus station and take a comfortable coach (ticket included) to Prague, the Czech capital.

Best time to go
The Central European continental climate consists of hot summers and cold winters. The best time for walking tours is between April and October. In the summer months it can get quite hot. May, June and September are generally good months to take advantage of the cooler, but still warm weather. September is also the wine harvest time in South Moravia.
